Caroline is pureblood, all right, though from her behavior one would be hard pressed to tell. Her parents are, in her estimation, certified /nutsos/, a pair of Hufflepuffs (Edwin and Kitty) who are movers and shakers in the organic herbology movement and community supported agriculture outside of Cardiff, Wales. Caro's grown up on the farm, though now that she is older she's staying in London over part of summers with an aunt, the better to be educated in 'culture' and not have dirt under her nails forevermore (her grandparents on her father's side do not approve. How the child of a pair of Slytherins ever went so far astray as to become a hippie /farmer/ is beyond them. Gertrudis will never live down the shame, especially since her archrival in school, Cornelius Conrad, has children who've made their mark at the British Magical Museum).

Growing up on the farm, Caro was a bit isolated from other wizarding children, and was defensive around the muggle kids- after all, there was something odd about her, and kids can sense such things. Add into that being one of the few girls amongst the village kids, and she grew up scrappy, willing to climb any tree, hop any fence, steal any apple off a tree, brave any graveyard at night to prove she's just as swell as anyone. The letter to Hogwarts was a relief though not surprising (her pumpkin, after all, grew to herculean proportions after she camped out next to it all night when she was 6), and the hat was on her head for seconds before it declared the girl fit for Gryffindor.

Her existence is not one flush with cash, though she does not talk about it. Herbology and CoMC are her favorite courses, and she cannot wait to drop the utterly dreadfully boring Astro and History. Defensive of the younger years and always one to stand up to a bully or a dare, she's settling into Hogwarts at long last.
